Reimagining Special Education Practices and Services CoP Sessions are designed for superintendents, COE administrators, district office administrators, and site administrators, these sessions focuses on building systemic conditions to support students with disabilities (SWD) as they transition from middle school to high school and beyond. The emphasis is on post-secondary education, career pathways and independent living.
Strategies for Building a More Inclusive School District: Overview of inclusive education and co-teaching models, benefits for students and schools, legal and policy frameworks. Inclusion of students with disabilities in general education classes, CTE classes, middle college and working towards a high school diploma to ensure that students with disabilities transition to college, careers or supported employment.
Strategic Planning for Inclusive Education: Developing a district-wide vision for inclusion, aligning resources, considering master scheduling and staffing implications, collaborating with nonpublic and community resources, setting goals, and creating an implementation timeline. Activities include group discussions, strategic planning exercises, case study analysis and fishbone diagram analysis.
Creating and Sustaining Inclusive Education: Monitoring, Evaluating, Celebrating and Sustaining Progress Content: Review the most important aspects of inclusive education before launching efforts in leading schools through action steps. This session will include interactive sessions, data analysis exercises, forum discussions.
